4TH OF JULY IN LONG BEACH CA = Fireworks, BBQ and Family Fun!
When you think of 4th of July in Long Beach CA, you can't help but to think of mesquite scented air, huge family backyard BBQs featuring grilled steaks, hamburgers and hot dogs, colorful parades, pie-eating contests, beach parties and of course great 4th of July fireworks!

4TH OF JULY PICNICS AND BLOCK PARTIES: There are many 4th of July Long Beach Events scheduled all over Long Beach, CA. One of my favorite 4th of July daytime activities is to attend the local neighborhood block party! It's a great way to become reacquainted with friends and neighbors while at the same time participating in the many fun family games such as the dunk tank, water balloon toss and the popular cake walk! TIP: Try not to become distracted by the emcee's funky Elaine - Seinfeld dance when the music stops. It's a strategy to distract you!

4TH OF JULY CONTESTS: The watermelon eating contest is a very entertaining activity as well. You usually have three types of eaters. There is the one who insists on maintaining a cool appearance by "eating cute." Then there's the one that overthinks the process by trying to mathematically estimate the speed and number of bites it would take based on the width and depth of the watermelon slice. Then last but certainly not least, is the one that inhales the entire watermelon, giving it all they've got! You guys rock!
4TH OF JULY FOOD: BBQ is a must! There's nothing like seeing summer grill masters in all of their glory! Chilled potato salad, BBQ baked beans, every kind of pie imaginable! I could go on forever! The Chili Cook-Off can prove quite interesting when anonymously casting your vote for what is deemed to be the best chili in your Long Beach neighborhood! When trying the various samples, you can't help but feel the many eyes boring into you from a distance.
TIP: Keep a fixed smile on your face, occasionally raise your eyebrows and if you really want to make someone's day, a thumbs up gesture wouldn't hurt!

LONG BEACH'S 4TH OF JULY FIREWORKS: How do you know it's almost fireworks time in Long Beach, CA? All of a sudden there's a buzz and excitement in the air around twilight time. You'll see people starting to rush out of their homes. Crowded shops and noisy pubs start clearing out as hundreds of spectators start walking, skating or bicycling south towards the shore. Kids are running ahead of their parents shrieking and laughing. Even the canine family members seem to sense the excitement and happily trot alongside their human companions.
4tH OF JULY IN LONG BEACH, CA is one of the most entertaining and spectacular ways to spend your Independence Day in Southern California!

I think I'll come down just to enter the watermelon eating contest. But it looks like no hands allowed.
Looks like a great time for all ages in Long Beach, CA this 4th of July! I'm with Jim, the watermelon contest sounds good with this summer heat, but maybe a little too messy. Great Localism post on love your Events Calendar. Have a safe and happy 4th!
Looks like a fun place to celebrate, and much cooler than the 105 degrees here in Phoenix
You're going to have a fabulous time in Long Beach this weekend, Andi. Happy 4th!
Hi Jim, yes the watermelon contest is no hands allowed. Sad thing is the guy pictured wasn't the winner!! If this guy ever catches up with me, I'll have to treat him to lunch for posting a picture of him nose-deep in watermelon!
Carol - THANKS! I've been doing the calendar for about 2-3 months now and my goodness, who knew Long Beach had so many events going on at one given time!
Bill - 105 degrees?! I would be the witch melting..melting..melting. I love heat, but humid is more my style although not great for my hair. POOF :)
Lottie - Happy 4th to you too friend! Your area is so beautiful it doesn't need fireworks to make it shine brightly!
Carla!! It's STILL raining?! We've had this conversation for 3-4 months now! It would've been fun to have you out here! We could've headed back to Lucilles BBQ!
