Home is Where the Cave Is - The Man Cave Phenomenon!
I've noticed within the last year that I'm getting more requests for homes with man cave potential! What is a man cave you ask? It's simply a not-so-fancy name for an estrogen-free zone of the house, a bonus room or garage where testosterone reigns supreme. Most notably, this "man cave" will sometimes contain
mismatched furniture, sports memorabilia, a mini-fridge filled with brewery or fermented supplies and maybe even a few vulgar items that he swore he got rid of before he married you!
Now before all of you wives, girlfriends and significant others get into a huff over this exclusive "boy's club," just think about this for a minute. What does he really get? 500 square feet or so of locker room glory? You get thousands of square feet to appoint with designer touches that you see fit. Warming up to the idea yet?
You can actually have guests over without having to perform the cursory "frat sweep" of man-child items or embarassing photos! If you are looking for homes with great man cave potential in Long Beach, Lakewood, Downey , Carson or any city in the Greater Los Angeles are and its surrounding counties, call me at 310-508
-4354 and I can send you customized searches specifically of homes containing bonus rooms, guest houses, 3+ car garages or standing attic spaces that you can receive via email as soon as they hit the market!

Andi - this is great! This is where the poster of the dogs playing poker can hang! Only one problem, I'd be out there too.
And 'man caves' are the rage all over the country. I first heard the term from my daughter and son-in-law in Cambridge--Gary has a truly fine 'man cave!'
Lottie - that's a blog! The Redskin photos are from one of my clients. We really hit the jackpot because the home we found had a garage with TWO add'l large storage rooms that have been converted into more man cave space and a gym.
Cynthia - exactly!! That and that same ole' Godfather Tony Corleone poster they love. I am all for them getting a corner if we can have the rest of the house! :)
ETA: So I showed my client this blog. He said he has a huge print of dogs playing cards on the other wall - lol!
For some reason, all of a sudden I'm getting the urge to grunt like Tim "the Tool Man" Taylor (Home Improvement). Fun post Andi!!
Thanks Carla! I knew exactly who you were referring too.
My client actually gave me quite a few photos. He had one of "boobs on a wall plaque" that moved up and down to music. lol Thank God we found him what I call an "Al Bundy" space. The wife has the rest of the home decorated beautifully!
P.S. I've had similiar situations, only reserve. Where there was a need for a "work room" for the wife's crafting. Had a client who made very authentic looking guinea pig stuffed toys -- needed space for fabric, stuffing, etc. Another client needed a work room for her scrap booking enterprise.
Estrogen Free Zone... LOL. Around here most of the "man space" is a detached garage so they can really get away.
Carla, I too remember a time when that extra room was automatically assumed to be the women's arts and craft room, sewing room or shared unused gym. But men are definitely staking claim on the extra space now.
Carol - I have one client I made a two sided sign for that had both quotes above painted on them. He loved them!
I've seen some man caves that were really swanky too - almost cigar loungey type rooms. Others go the locker room route. :)
Everyone seems to love the concept of the man cave. There are many areas that one can designate. It is fun when we point out future man cave space, before the buyers figure it out. Smiles all around.
I agree Margaret, all of a sudden the man is much more interested in the process. :)
