 Belmont Shore's Stroll & Savor 2011 in Long Beach: Great Food - Belly Full!

It's no secret that I love to eat!  It's no secret that I love Belmont Shore!  So when you put the two together for Belmont Shore's Stroll and Savor, I'm pretty much in epicurean heaven!  Last year's Belmont Stroll and Savor 2010 was a great success, but I ate so much half way through, that there were many great restaurants that I missed.  My strategy this year is to start from the opposite end of 2nd St. so as not to miss a delicious thing! 

Participating Stroll and Savor 2nd St. Restaurants:  There will be over 40 great restaurants and shops participating by offering their best dishes for even the most discriminatory of palates.  Mediterranean, Italian, Greek, Mexican, BBQ, Cali-Fresh, Thai, Japanese, just to name a few!  For dessert lovers: chocolate, apple and brandy butter cinnamon along with red velvet will be just a few named among your many enemies that night!  There are also plenty of treats for our canine family members and friends!  Pupcakes are a favorite in Belmont Shore!

Belmont Stroll and Savor 2011 Prices:  $10 for a ticket book of $12.  Most restaurants offer samples for 2 - 4 tickets with a few of the more expensive dishes offering samples for 5 tickets.

"Which restaurants are offering the most food for the ticket?"

Is it simply a Taste of Belmont Shore or a Meal?  One of the most asked questions I get about the Belmont Stroll and Savor event is "Which restaurants are offering the most food for the ticket?" Now in certain polite circles this would be deemed rude, but with grocery store and gas prices at an all time high and the overall economy kicking our butts, it's no wonder why people want to know where they can get the most bang for their buck.  *Whispers* I can't speak for this year, but last year I received generous portions from LaStrada, Lucilles BBQ, and Magic Lamp.  For example LaStrada was serving a heaping bowl of one of their fan favorites, the Fettucine AuGratin and a large slice of Bianca Pizza (made with Fresh Spinach, Garlic, Alfredo Sauce, and Mozzarella) for 2 tickets each! That type of delicious will have your undiscovered dimples making an appearance!  I hear both Bonos and George's Greek Cafe offer a fantastic size plate as well!  OPAH!!

Purchase Tickets for Belmont Stroll and Savor 2011:  2nd St Buy your tickets pre-sale now at Olives Gourmet, La Strada (between Roycroft and Park), We Olive, Mail Boxes etc. & Sweet Jill's.  Tickets also sold in front of CHASE BANK night of event. 

Stroll and Savor Time: 5:30pm - 9pm. TIP: By 8pm there are lines and large crowds so get there before then if you can.

BELMONT SHORE "STROLL AND SAVOR" - I came, I tasted, I conquered!

"Stroll and Savor" is one of my favorite Long Beach, CA Events!  Think about it.  Where else can you get away with stuffing your face with over 30 different cuisines, desserts and beverages for several hours without feeling any guilt?  Last night I attended Day 1 of the two-day "A Taste of Belmont Shore, Stroll and Savor" events! Tickets are sold in books of 12 for $10.  Each participating merchant has a menu of cuisines that you can purchase individually for a certain number of tickets.

I started my "Stroll and Savor" at La Strada where I had a choice of either the Shrimp Scampi, Fettuccine Au Gratin or their Bianca Pizza!  Because I had already eaten my favorite Fettuccine Au Gratin only a few nights ago at La Strada with Carla Muss-Jacobs who was visiting from out of town, I decided to go for a generous slice of their famous Bianca Pizza!  Savory deliciousness for only 2 tickets!  What a great way to kick off my "Stroll!"  By the way, I have to say that I loved how Lisa Ramelow (owner of La Strada) was being pulled in all directions but managed to stop, hug and greet many of the "strollers" by first name!

"Seriously, if it were socially acceptable I would've walked around with a bib tied around my neck with a knife and fork in each hand!"

I then tried samples from Yen Sushi (Cajun Spicy Tuna), Frosted Cupcakery (red velvet cupcake heaven), Olives Gourmet Grocer (Italian Sausage Lasagna), Magic Lamp (GREAT friendly staff serving delicious Lebanese Mediterranean grilled cuisine with names I couldn't pronounce); Panama Joes (taquitos and enchiladas) and of course I saved my last few tickets for Lucilles Smokehouse BBQ (generous portion of BBQ Beef Rib Tips) and washed it all down with their most delicious Strawberry Lemonade!  Seriously, if it were socially acceptable I would've walked around with a bib tied around my neck with a knife and fork in each hand!  But as much as I wanted to sample the remaining 15 or more great restaurants I still had to choose from, I simply was too full to stroll, baby step or crawl any further.

 ITALIAN RESTAURANTS IN LONG BEACH - Help I'm full and I can't get up! 

 
So you've just moved into a new home in Long Beach, CA, finished unpacking and now your hungry!   The wifey already gave you the evil eye when you suggested defiling her new marble backsplash by cooking dinner.  So what do you do?  You head towards Belmont Shore!  The moment your stomach grumbles violently, look up!  You've just arrived at La Strada! One of my favorite little Italian restaurants in Long Beach, CA!
 
THE ATMOSPHERE:

This warm and friendly neighborhood restaurant allows you the choice of either indoor or alfresco dining.  Both offering a unique charm of their own.  The quaint and unpretentious interior features stenciled wall quotes that'll have you unconsciously smiling and nodding your head in agreement.   The outdoor patio area consists of a vignette of tables that offer enough privacy for intimate conversation, while still allowing for optimal people watching; a favorite past-time event here in Long Beach, CA because a cookie-cutter population we are not!
 
You'll find the restaurant a little quiet during the daytime hours.  It's in the evenings when things become a little more lively.  I find myself wanting to burst out in "That's Amore!"  But I'm much too reserved for that so alas, I'll just have to wait for someone's vino induced Uncle Tony to start it and I'll join in!
 
THE FOOD:
 
BREAD:  Before you can decide on what to order from the menu, they'll bring you out a basket of freshly baked bread.  I have yet to read a review of this restaurant that doesn't worship La Strada's baked bread.  It's a combination of crisp, soft and warm.  My toes are curling right now just thinking about it!  Dip or sop it in a generous splash of olive oil coupled with a few sprinkles of balsamic vinegar and your hooked!  Believe me, you'll write me later to thank me and to ask me to be the godmother of your kids!
 
ANTIPASTI:  Many scrumptious appetizers to choose from.  My favorite happens to be the Tomato Basil Caprese.  Can you say delicious?
 ENTREES:  The stars of La Strada are definitely the entrees!  My all time favorite would have to be the absolutely delicious Fetuccine au Gratin...or maybe its the Grilled Chicken with Pesto they serve on the lunch menu.  But then again the Chicken Mediterranean and the Bianca Pizza are delicious and huge fan favorites as well!   You decide!
 
THE PRICES:

La Strada is moderately priced while serving generous portions.  Oh and did I forget to mention $5 Tuesdays for some of the classic dishes, wines and beer?  There is also a great kid's menu!
 
THE SERVICE:

Depending on how crowded it is, it can vary.  A small cozy restaurant with a huge following will occasionally hit a snag.  But with the service being friendly and the food so good, you'll forgive them almost anything!  I would strongly recommend reservations for parties of 6 or more.  Yes, 6 or more.  I did say La Strada restaurant was "cozy" remember?
